Diesel Systems Development

For more than 30 years, FEV has been the engineering partner of choice to the transportation industry for the development and improvement of diesel systems. Today, FEV is developing and refining diesel engines from combustion through aftertreatment systems to ensure both the lowest engine-out emissions and highest specific power output for a wide range of applications:

Our clientele is composed of transportation and manufacturing OEMs, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, as well as government agencies on a global basis. For each of these customers, FEV’s objective is to identify, design, develop and implement new technologies that will benefit our customers in meeting anticipated emissions and performance metrics, without sacrificing efficiency.

Worldwide, FEV's business consists of approximately 50% diesel related activities. FEV has been, and is currently, directly involved in the development of a number of diesel engine and aftertreatment design, development and implementation projects. This involvement covers the full spectrum of diesel engines from small passenger car diesel powertrains to heavy-duty marine, locomotive and industrial engines.

From advanced development through production projects, FEV offers value-oriented engineering solutions to our diesel customers. Please choose from the following links to learn more about FEV's diesel core competencies:

Combustion System Development
The optimization of the combustion process for diesel engines represents the heart of each engine development program.
Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment
FEV has long term experience in the development and application of diesel exhaust gas aftertreatment technologies.
Fuel Injection System Technology
Fuel injection technology represents one of the main drivers towards improving current characteristics of diesel engines and identifies future enhancements to reduce engine exhaust emissions, combustion noise and fuel consumption.
Alternative Combustion Systems & Fuels
Active research and development programs have been created that deal with alternative diesel combustion processes and the use of alternative fuels.
Baseline Research & Advanced Engineering
FEV possesses a wide range of basic equipment and capabilities to support fundamental studies and research activities.
SOP Calibration
One method of accelerating and optimizing the production development process under stringent boundary conditions is to reorganize the calibration process.
Engine Calibration Method & Tools
FEV supports the development process through the use of standardized methods for the appropriate tools.
Engine Control Functionalities
The global powertrain market is experiencing growing demands from consumers for improving drivability, NVH and fuel economy, which led to an increase in the application of electronic control systems within diesel vehicles.
OBD Application
On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) is one of the dominating elements of engine and vehicle control systems.
Boosting Technologies
Turbocharging (TC) systems have been developed and refined progressively to deliver ever improving performance and the benefits of lower emissions and increased fuel economy.
Engine Robustness & Reliability
While development time for the combustion, calibration and application for modern diesel engines is becoming increasingly limited, the demands placed on performance, emissions, acoustic behavior, fuel efficiency, drivability and production costs continue to escalate.
