Our product set includes NSCR and SCR catalyst systems, diesel particulate filters (DPF), silencers, technical service, training, and air/fuel ratio controllers. Position Overview
CLIENT Corporation desires an experienced technical leader with demonstrated success in moving technologies from the laboratory into commercial products. The Research & Development Manager is responsible for finding, developing and testing new products for current markets and new applications for current products. This effort will support CLIENT’s continued profitability and sales growth by providing a technical advantage in the marketplace. The R&D Manager should possess the technical, business analysis, project management, communication and sales skills needed for ongoing technical and market understanding, analysis of potential products, test program planning and management, market development, and product promotion.
Financial
- Complete annual research and development plan coordinated with engineering, project management, technical service, production, marketing, and sales staff and develop a comprehensive budget for the department
- Manage project expenses
- Develop metrics and produce reports that quantify results.
- Create an on-going pipeline of new products or modified products for new markets that have a potential to add at least $1 MM in new sales within 3 years from the product launch or a significant reduction in the Cost of Goods Sold.
- Obtain outside funding to support test programs, and reduce client’s test expenses.
- Assist marketing with financial analysis of projects
Management/Leadership
- Skillfully question customers and listen to answers to fully address their issues and provide thorough solutions.
- Regularly visit key vendors, research facilities, technical society meetings and some customers
- Understand project economics for our products, as well as our competitors products
- Set, manage and communicate company expectations
- Communicate thoroughly to establish a good working relationship with customers, suppliers, test facilities, and staff (if applicable)
- Train and develop employees to identify and coordinate their necessary skills
- Perform annual review with each employee (if applicable), identify strengths and weaknesses, solutions to resolve any issues and identification of correlating compensation increases
- Support company policies and procedures, identify changes that would result in more efficient and effective production
Research & Development
- Coordinate R&D programs – cost reduction programs, new product creation, new applications for existing products
- Manage new product pipeline and R&D activities
- Manage technical relations with key vendors and research facilities
- Design products with features valued by customers and cost effective manufacturing
- Manage technical product training with staff, sales agents and customers
- Present papers to key technical societies annually
- Apply for patents when appropriate, and coordinate Intellectual Property strategies with Engineering and Senior management
Client/Customers
- Identify potential vendors. Develop profiles of potential and existing vendors using Customer Relation Management database
- Actively manage vendor relationships
- Participate in on-site installs, troubleshooting and training with distributors and representatives when appropriate
- Travel with sales staff to end-user customers to determine and refine MIRATECH value proposition and key product features and benefits
Corporate Development
- Present ideas for investment and acquisition targets.
- Support database management as a key corporate asset including – Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Customer Relation Management (CRM), regulations, engine information, installations, application knowledge, and competitor lists
Requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in a technical or quantitative field
- MS Office and MS Project Management Software
- 3-D modeling software with familiarity with Finite Element Analysis and Computation Fluid Dynamics modeling
- Five (5) to Ten (10) years of direct industrial, engineering product development and support experience
- Two (2) years of experience managing technical staff - preferred
- Demonstrated interest in reciprocating engines, industrial applications, combustion, and controls
- 10% to 40% travel
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
