John Deere Power Systems is seeking a Senior Engineer to provide daily supervision of administrative and technical issues involving a functional group of engineers and engineering support personnel who work on a project or a specific portion of a project for a program using the Enterprise Product Delivery Process (EPDP). In this position, you will:
- Conduct project planning and execution of advanced diesel base engine development activities to meet emission regulations and product requirements.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to the engine development team.
- Work with other engine platform teams to achieve alignment and improvement of development methods and processes.
- Work with product verification and validation group to define and oversee completion of development activities and reliability & durability testing.
- Work with fuel system, air system, controls and after-treatment system teams to define system needs, and develop and successfully implement these systems on the engine platform.
- Provide engine calibration requirements document to performance and emissions group and ensure collaborative communication between base engine group and performance and emissions group.
- Oversee emissions certification of new engine families to support engine introduction.
- Work with engine applications engineering to determine application needs, communicate engine performance capabilities, and define application requirements for successful engine operation.
- Provide coaching, career development advice and performance evaluation to team members.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Course work in internal combustion engines preferred.
Required Skills and Experience
- Diesel engine development and testing including critical engine hardware development experience.
- Experience defining and evaluating engine controls to provide required engine features and function.
- Data organization, analysis and decision making.
- Communication and coaching.
- Project management experience.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with tools used to revise engine control software and acquire electronic engine data.
- Experience in engine design, diesel fuel system development, turbocharger development and/or power cylinder development.
- Negotiation, risk analysis and root cause analysis skills.
