Systems Engineer

NxtGen is an emerging supplier of syngas aftertreatment systems with products that are sold to retrofit emission system manufacturers, Tier 1 system integrators and diesel engine manufacturers. All our employees want to make a meaningful contribution by reducing the powertrain's impact on the environment through advances in chemical and mechanical engineering and to build a commercially successful business.
We are moving forward with product commercialization starting with retrofit aftertreatment systems and are also developing products for original equipment applications. NxtGen has a Technology Center located in Burnaby, British Columbia and has opened a new Manufacturing and Applications Engineering Center in Wixom, Michigan. We are hiring staff for both locations and are offering challenging positions with room for advancement and attractive compensation packages.
Responsibilities
- Write and maintain systems requirement documents.
- Use systems engineering principles and methods to develop optimized aftertreatment systems for diesel engines using NxtGen technology.
- Perform system trade-off studies that optimize system cost, fuel efficiency and durability.
- Work with design groups to understand component characteristics and application engineers to understand vehicle integration issues as they relate to system design.
- Write component design requirements based on system optimization studies.
- Work closely with simulation personnel to ensure development of accurate systems models and use the system models to accelerate the product delivery process.
- Work closely with systems test personnel to assist with tasks and to ensure verification of system designs.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- An engineering degree.
- Six to twelve years experience performing:
- Developing system architecture options and selecting based on criteria identified.
- System tradeoff studies for engine aftertreatment systems or chemical process systems.
- Developing and coordinating test plans for chemical process systems to validate mass and energy balance models.
- Developing and documenting control logic and algorithms.
- Diesel engine, heavy duty truck or automotive industry product development to PPAP.
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals.
- Project management experience in a product development environment.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
- A strong sense of accountability and a desire to continually improve oneself.
Additional Beneficial Skills
- An understanding of the mechanical issues involved in integrating components onto vehicles such as heavy duty trucks
- Experience with software such as Matlab/Simulink, Hysys, VMG Sim and Comsol
