Position: Product Design Engineer
Purpose of Position:
Providing technical leadership to the team in the development/improvement of exhaust products ensuring customer and internal requirements are met.
Major Responsibilities:
- Leading the team to design and development of exhaust systems to meet customer requirements
- Working with the Application Specialists to understand customer requirements
- Working directly with customer engineering departments to understand and develop solutions for customer’s issues and problems
- Ensuring analysis and testing is completed to verify compliance with requirements
- Support the development of cost estimates for quoting purposes
- Lead cross functional team in the development of continuous improvement activities of existing products within the organization
- Support and track prototype/quotation requests for new product introduction
- Lead product development from concept development to successful product launch ensuring schedule is met
- Review product design to ensure compliance with internal DFM/A rules
- Working with Process Engineering in the development of DFM/A design rules
- Participate in strategic discussions for product road map development
- Participate in cross functional design reviews and feasibility analysis
- Support Test Lab to ensure testing is completed to meet customer requirements
- Communication & coordination with all other departments & vendors
- Insures fair treatment of employees consistent with the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights code, the Active Collective Agreement & Active employee relations policies
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
- 10 years experience in product design
- Experience with heat transfer as well as an understanding of engines and exhaust systems
- Strong understanding of welding and metal forming processes
