Position: Product Design Engineer

Purpose of Position:

Providing technical leadership to the team in the development/improvement of exhaust products ensuring customer and internal requirements are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leading the team to design and development of exhaust systems to meet customer requirements
  • Working with the Application Specialists to understand customer requirements
  • Working directly with customer engineering departments to understand and develop solutions for customer’s issues and problems
  • Ensuring analysis and testing is completed to verify compliance with requirements
  • Support the development of cost estimates for quoting purposes
  • Lead cross functional team in the development of continuous improvement activities of existing products within the organization
  • Support and track prototype/quotation requests for new product introduction
  • Lead product development from concept development to successful product launch ensuring schedule is met
  • Review product design to ensure compliance with internal DFM/A rules
  • Working with Process Engineering in the development of DFM/A design rules
  • Participate in strategic discussions for product road map development
  • Participate in cross functional design reviews and feasibility analysis
  • Support Test Lab to ensure testing is completed to meet customer requirements
  • Communication & coordination with all other departments & vendors
  • Insures fair treatment of employees consistent with the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights code, the Active Collective Agreement & Active employee relations policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 10 years experience in product design
  • Experience with heat transfer as well as an understanding of engines and exhaust systems
  • Strong understanding of welding and metal forming processes
