The consumption of zirconium oxide, or zirconia, in the emission control catalyst technology has increased significantly over the last few years. Ceria doped zirconia has become a standard component of automotive three-way catalyst washcoats. Zirconia is also used in diesel catalysts for DOC and SCR applications and is actively researched as a prospective compound of lean NOx trap catalysts for both diesel and gasoline engines.
