Five years after the introduction of the Hydraulically Actuated Electronic Unit Injector (HEUI) fuel system in conjunction with Navistar, and 12 years after the launch of its Mechanically Actuated Electronic Unit Injection system (MEUI), Caterpillar Fuel Systems is now gearing up for production of the next generation of these two systems. Due in 2000 and 2001 respectively, are the HEUI-B and the MEUI-B fuel systems. The HEUI systems are targeted for engines below 1.0 to 1.5 liter/cylinder displacement, and the MEUI for engines above that line.
The launch of these two new fuel systems also represents a coming out for Caterpillar Fuel Systems, Pontiac, IL. Now officially a commercial entity, Caterpillar Fuel Systems is being positioned as an independent fuel systems supplier, with the ability to sell its technology to other engine manufacturers.
