Delphi to supply common rail injection systems for PSA Peugeot Citroen and Hyundai-Kia

13 September 2001

Delphi Automotive Systems announced it has been selected by PSA Peugeot Citroen and Hyundai-Kia as the supplier of diesel common rail systems.

Production for the Kia KJ 2.9, available in the Carnival and Terran, began in August. Development programs with PSA Peugeot Citroen are for 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter 16-valve engines due for production later this year and into 2002 respectively. During 2001, Delphi also started production of diesel common rail systems for the Renault Clio and the Ford Focus TDCi.

Delphi’s Multec™ DCR 1400 has been designed to offer diesel vehicles performance and refinement that is equivalent to gasoline, with exceptional fuel economy and emissions. Multec™ DCR 1400 is the first diesel direct injection system to provide closed-loop control. Called Accelerometer Pilot Control (APC), this technology allows the Engine Management System to monitor the quality of the combustion. Information from the APC allows injection parameters to be adjusted as conditions change, ensuring that the system is always correctly calibrated.

Delphi currently has 15% of the roughly US$4.9 billion European diesel injection market. To date, Delphi has invested more than US$1 billion in diesel technology.
