Peugeot will launch the 3008 HYbrid4 crossover next spring, the world’s first production diesel-electric hybrid, according to the company.
The vehicle is powered by a 2.0 liter, 120 kW HDi diesel engine in conjunction with a 20 kW (peak output of 27 kW), rear-mounted electric motor and utilizes high-voltage nickel-metal hydride battery technology. The hybrid vehicle is capable of a total combined output of 150 kW and a combined maximum torque of 500 Nm, including 300 Nm at the front wheels and 200 Nm at the rear. The combined NEDC fuel consumption is 3.8 l/100 km and the CO2 emissions 99 g/km. The Euro 5 vehicle is fitted with the latest generation “octosquare” Eolys additive-based diesel particulate filter system.
The vehicle can be operated in four different modes: Auto, ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle), 4WD and Sport. In Auto mode, the drive system is controlled automatically, including operation of the diesel engine and the electric motor. The ZEV mode involves all-electric operation, with the diesel engine activated only at more sustained phases of acceleration. In the 4WD mode the rear wheels are driven by the electric motor and the front wheels by the diesel engine. The Sport mode uses the maximum output offered by the combined system.
The 3008 HYbrid4 will be manufactured in France and marketed in the Spring of 2011 in Europe.
