Notox Background

Notox has been involved in filtration of diesel exhaust since 1985. During its history the company has been a frontrunner in filter technology, and has introduced many innovative products and technologies. The company filed its first patents protecting the novel filter structure and the underlaying production methods in 1988.

Since then Notox Ceramic Filters has introduced many new types of filter substrates, all of them based on protected technology to continue to offer state of the art filter solutions.

These filter products meet or exceed the market demands for a high cell density, low pressure drop filter media.

The pressure drop profiles during soot loading are normally lower than other SIC or Cordierite filters with the similar cell density.

Developed in Denmark, more than a decade ago, the Notox Silicon Carbide Diesel Particulate Filters, have been proven as an excellent solution for demanding retrofit applications, where a very durable filter substrate is required. Where other filter substrates consequently fail, Notox has succeeded with the R-SiC filters.

Our filters are manufactured in two different versions, each targeted for different application fields and in particular different regeneration strategies. With these two main versions of the filter available, an optimized filter solution is available for almost any application. A catalytic coating can be added to any of these versions. However the XD-90 version has proved to be very suitable for coating due to the larger pore size of this filter.

The XD Filters

The very durable XD filters are available in 90 CPSI. We recommend these filters for filter systems with a passive regeneration strategy, where the filter may encounter very high soot loads before regeneration takes place.

During regeneration at elevated soot loads, the filter structure experiences high stress levels due to the energy release from the soot combustion. Our XD filters can withstand regeneration at soot loads above 15 g/l without being damaged.

The MD Filters

The MD filters available in 200 CPSI are targeted towards systems with active regeneration or OEM use, but can also be applied for passive systems with consistent regeneration. For this type of applications, where regeneration takes place under controlled conditions, a filter with less durability is sufficient. This enables a filter design with more attention on reducing the pressure drop as much as possible. The maximum allowable soot load is however still as high as 10 g/l.

Sizes Available

We manufacture the filter substrates in almost any standard size required on the market from 4,66" to 15" diameter. We are also able to deliver, square, oval and race track shapes or any other cross section specified by our customers.

If your specific application requires a filter with a non-standard cross section or just a standard cross section in a non standard length, we are pleased to offer our service to you.

The Advantage of Silicon Carbide

Silicon Carbide has several advantageous properties as DPF material:

  • High thermal and chemical stability at temperatures much above the max. obtainable temperature in a WFF for a diesel engine
  • High material strength
  • High thermal conductivity

However the most important key to successful use of SiC is closely linked to a thorough understanding of the thermal stresses induced in SiC.

Notox has gained extensive experience on how to tailor material properties to a WFF design, to secure the durability and at the same time deliver a satisfactorily pressure drop.
