Regardless of how sophisticated laboratories and test procedures have become, they will never truly replicate in use operating conditions. The only way to get accurate results is to monitor the vehicle as it goes through its normal duty cycle under real-world conditions.

Sensors, Inc. has focused on the design, development and manufacture of instrumentation for on- and off-road, in-use gaseous and particulate measurement for over five years, which has led to the introduction of the SEMTECH product line, the leader of in-use testing equipment.

SEMTECH-DS provides an immediate analysis of key exhaust gas components, including total hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide via traditional FID and NDIR techniques respectively. Oxides of nitrogen (NO and NO2) are measured simultaneously and independently with Sensors’ proprietary NDUV (non-dispersive ultraviolet spectroscopy) technology.

The system's relatively light weight (<70 lbs) and small size (14 x 19 x 22) as compared to other systems make it a tremendously adaptable and powerful tool for a variety of purposes. For example, SEMTECH-DS has been used in engine and sub-system development and for on-road fuel economy measurements. Engine performance is carefully monitored through the vehicle interface, while simultaneous emission measurements are captured. Such testing is particularly useful for tracing drivability problems as well as in developing engine and vehicle electronic control strategies.

SEMTECH EFM2 is a rugged, compact flow meter specifically designed by Sensors, Inc. for the measurement of total raw exhaust flow from both compression and spark ignition engines and vehicles. SEMTECH EFM2 employs a differential pressure technique to ensure measurement accuracy over a wide dynamic range in a host of test cell and on-vehicle testing applications. SEMTECH-DS utilizes the flow data together with the emissions concentrations to calculate instantaneous, total mass emissions.
