Mitsui recalling particulate filters in Tokyo
27 November 2004
Japan’s Mitsui & Co. admitted that it supplied falsified test data when applying for approval of its diesel particulate filter (DPF) system by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The filter was subsequently approved for use in the Tokyo diesel retrofit program, but provided PM filtration efficiency below what was required by the regulations.
Mitsui sold approximately 21,500 units of the filter. The company said it will undertake to replace the DPFs at no cost by supplying products of other manufacturers, reforming the existing products, and developing alternative products.
