Rypos DPF receives California Level 3 verification

15 June 2007

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has verified the Rypos HDPF/C™ diesel particulate filter (DPF) system as a Level 3 Plus diesel emission control device. The verification covers stationary emergency standby generator and pump applications with a PM emission rate of 0.2 g/bhp-hr or less, powered by diesel engines certified to Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 nonroad emission standards. Level 3 Plus verifications means that the system reduces diesel PM emissions by at least 85% and does not increase NO2 by more than 20% (i.e., it meets the January 2009 NO2 limit).

The Rypos HDPF/C filter consists of filter cartridges made of sintered metal fibers, electrical control circuit, and a filter housing (an active sintered metal DPF), in combination with a downstream diesel oxidation catalyst. The active filter is regenerated using electrical power, where the metallic filter media itself is utilized as a resistive heater.

The Rypos active DPF, without a catalyst, was previously verified as a Level 2 device, reducing PM emissions by at least 50%.
