Manhattan Bus Cycle

Time-speed data points

The Manhattan Bus Cycle is a chassis dynamometer test for urban buses. The Manhattan cycle was developed based on actual observed driving patterns of urban transit buses in the Manhattan core of New York City. The cycle is characterized by frequent stops and very low speed. Vehicle speed over the duration of the Manhattan driving cycle is shown in Figure 1.

The following are selected parameters of the Manhattan test:

  • Duration: 1089 s
  • Maximum speed: 40.88 km/h (25.4 mph)
  • Average speed: 11.0 km/h (6.8 mph)
