Volkswagen Truck & Bus renamed Traton

One of the world’s largest transportation groups has a new brand identity—Volkswagen Truck & Bus AG has been renamed to Traton AG.

“Traton is a young company with the unique character of a start-up and the extensive experience of its traditional brands,” said Andreas Renschler, CEO of Traton AG and member of the board of management of Volkswagen AG.

The Traton Group, founded in 2015 as Volkswagen Truck & Bus GmbH, comprises the brands MAN, Scania, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus and RIO.

The new name gives the Traton brands new identification potential and will help to distinguish between the Group and other Volkswagen brands, said the company.

Volkswagen has been preparing to raise funds for global expansion in commercial vehicles. In recent months, the company indicated it might consider a listing or partial listing of the trucks division. VW was also exploring a commercial vehicle alliance with Ford, according to media reports.
