Isuzu Motors Ltd. and Caterpillar Inc. have jointly developed a direct injection fuel injector for diesel engines. The injector is expected to significantly reduce CO and NOx emissions. Isuzu said it plans to use the injector in a 3000cc diesel engine to be used in Isuzu sports-utility and light commercial vehicles to be introduced in the next fiscal year. The injector adopts Caterpillar technology to increase fuel pressure by about 50 percent to 1,400 atmospheres and improving fuel efficiency by more than 30 percent. Isuzu said it may also use the injector in a new 2000cc diesel engine.
